My FX Journey - Why?

My name is Ketan Kalyansingh. I Trade the Forex Markets full time. After a difficult start and going through hell, I can proudly say I am damn good at it. At this time I estimate that I will work for another 5 years and then retire before I am 45. However, it was not always like this…

I have always been a middle management level guy working mostly for large established companies. Towards the end of my corporate nightmare I started working with start-ups. Going in and setting everything up. Could afford a holiday once a year and pay the mortgage, bills etc.

Large corporate are straight forward boring but stable. Auto pilot stuff. You know you hate it. Your boss knows you hate it. Both of you know but neither of you care.

Start-ups are funny. They send you on team building exercises where you do the sort of stuff that mice do in Science Labs. ‘We are all a team, in fact we are more then a team we are one big family!’ says Liz from marketing. We are all just such a bunch of happy fuckers. 

Why would you be happy making someone else rich? Your real life when working will be something along the lines of this: You awake and go to work for most of the day. You might go gym after work and then home for a bit of Television or time with the family. Then you go to sleep. Guess what you do the next day? THE SAME FUCKING THING. Guess what you will do every day for the rest of your working life? THE SAME FUCKING THING. What will happen after you are too old to work? YOU WILL DIE.

Maybe all that gym work paid off and you live a long life. What then? YOU WILL WISH THAT YOU DIED. You will be too poor to enjoy life on a crappy pension and state benefits.

In 2014 I made a few decisions one random evening: 

  • I will never in my life fill in a form if I want a day off.
  • I will never in my life have some idiot do an annual or monthly appraisal on me.
  • I will never fill in a ‘return to work’ form after calling in sick because I had a hangover.
  • I will be my own boss.
  • I will be rich.

I started to look around for self employment opportunities. Eventually I came across Binary trading. 

My FX Journey - The beginning:

My journey started with Binary Trading. This is where you enter a trade by betting on if a currency pair will be stronger or weaker in a pre-determined time. For example I would trade £100 that EUR/USD be higher then what it is now in an hour or 5 mins or even 1 min. It was crazy, fast paced and a lot of fun when I was winning. Mainly because you could get an 80% payout on your initial stake. So I could make £18o from £100 in a few minutes. The only downside is that if the market goes against you, you have lost your £100 when the option expires in 5 mins or 1 min. Depending on what you chose when you entered.

That rush when the timer has 10 seconds left and you are praying that the market would  stay as it is and make you ‘In the Money’. Last second and it spikes up against you. The amount of times I blew my account and the amount of times I called my brokers mum a slag! I swore at God, I swore at everyone. I punched the keyboard and anything else within range. 

This was more stressful then normal work. Fuck this! I must add. this was not complete gambling. The trades were based on ‘retail trader level’ Technical Analysis. Trend lines, support and resistance and all that crap!  In fact is is due to Binary that I developed a colourful vocabulary.

Owing to my infinite wisdom, at the same time I was trying to offset the fast risky trading by placing Forex Trades. Saved me a lot of times.

So it will come as no surprise that eventually I moved onto proper Forex Trading and chucked the Binary out. Coming from a Binary Trading background I felt like a raw street fighter making the transition to MMA. They might be pro’s but I am from the fucking streets. I know every nook and cranny of these streets. I fight low and dirty but I fight fair. I am fucking Balboa!…… and……..cut a long story short I lost a lot of money.

My FX Journey - The Eureka Moment:

After losing a lot of money I decided to do a course, well a few of them. They taught me all the ‘retail level’ rubbish such as support and resistance, trend lines, indicators etc etc. After learning all this I still lost money. Kept getting stopped out even though I was setting stop losses how they taught me and following it to the tee. I learnt from some of the big named mentors who drive around in flash cars.

These big name mentors do not make money from Forex. They make it from the extortionate fees they charge for their rubbish courses.

I locked myself away for 8 weeks. I focused No bars, clubs. No Netflix. No distractions. I just sat there and studied charts after charts. I found that the market moves in a particular way and is manipulated to to hunt for liquidity. This liquidity comes from our money. How do they get it? By stopping us out either through triggering ‘retail level’ set stop losses or by triggering buy/sell stops/limits then manipulating the market away. 

To succeed you have to trade with this institutional flow. Do not be a salmon fighting upstream against the rapid waters moved by the worlds biggest financial institutions. 

I also learnt that Trading is not a get rich quick scheme. Account growth forecasts need to be realistic and reflective of the size of your account. Each trade needs to reflect the size of your account. 

Risk management has to be spot on and stuck to. 

Emotions need to be kept in check. Learn to cut your losses and be alive to fight again. 

My FX Journey - Why Teach?

I would like to teach a few people for a couple of reasons:

1. Karma. I would like to save other people the time and heartache that I went through. 95% lose and give up in this game. I was lucky enough not to give up but I could have. Very easily could have. However, I did not and now I can and I will make a difference to my students lives and the lives of their families. Hopefully the universe will reflect kindly on me.

2. Narcissism. I am a narcissist and proud. I would like to be a Rock Star in the world of Forex. Get the appreciation and admiration of everyone. I might go down in history. Maybe even, someday, someone, somewhere will worship me like a god.
